Privacy Policy

Noodl is a recipe and meal-planning app operated by Hugoniot Labs LLC, a New York limited liability company ("Hugoniot Labs," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Noodl mobile app and website (together, "Noodl"), how we use and share it, and the choices you have.

Noodl is currently offered in the United States.

The short version

• We collect what you put into Noodl (recipes, plans, lists, photos) and how you use the app, so we can run it and tailor recipe suggestions to you.
• When you use an AI feature, the text, links, or photos you submit are sent to Google's Gemini AI service to be processed.
• We don't sell your personal information, we don't show third-party ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
• You can delete your content at any time, and you can delete your whole account from inside the app.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

• Account information. Your email address and, if you provide it, your name. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple gives us your email address and, if you choose to share it, your name; you can also choose to hide your email, in which case we receive a private relay address instead. If you sign up with an email address and password, your password is handled by our authentication provider (Google Firebase Authentication) and stored in hashed form. We never see or store it in readable form.
• Age information. The age information you give us at sign-up, which we use to confirm that you are old enough to use Noodl.
• Profile details. A display name, an avatar, and the names you give your household or kitchen.
• Content you create or import. Recipes you save, write, or import (including the links you import them from), weekly meal plans, grocery and shopping lists, cooking history, ratings, and notes.
• Preferences. Settings and preferences you choose to give us, such as dietary preferences, ingredients to avoid, or household size, which we use to tailor recipes and plans.
• Photos you submit. If you scan a recipe, dish, fridge, or pantry, the photo is sent to our service so it can be read and turned into recipe or ingredient data. Photos you choose to keep (for example, a recipe's source photos or your profile avatar) are stored so the app can display them. Please keep other people, documents, and anything sensitive out of the frame.
• Voice input. When you use a voice feature (such as adding groceries by voice or hands-free cook mode), your speech is converted to text. Recognition may run on your device or through a speech-recognition service to produce a transcript.
• Messages and reports. Emails and feedback you send us, and reports you file about content or other users.

Information collected automatically

• Activity and search data. We log how you use Noodl: the recipes you view, add to your meal plan, cook, and rate; the searches you perform (including the search terms you type); and which features and filters you use. This data is linked to your account. It is stored in our own database (hosted with Google Cloud) rather than sent to an analytics or advertising company.
• Device and diagnostic data. Information such as device type, operating system and app version, error logs, and IP address, which our servers and hosting provider record to operate and secure the service. If you turn on notifications, we also store a push token that lets us deliver them to your device.
• Subscription information. If you subscribe, Apple and our subscription provider (RevenueCat) tell us your subscription status, such as which plan you have and when it started and renews, along with transaction identifiers from the App Store. We do not receive your payment card details.

What we don't collect

We don't collect your precise location, your contacts, or advertising identifiers.

2. How we use information

We use the information above to:

• Provide and operate Noodl: saving recipes, building plans, organizing grocery lists, and syncing your data across your devices and household.
• Generate and parse recipes from links, text, and images, and offer AI planning suggestions (see Section 3).
• Personalize Noodl. We use your activity (what you view, plan, cook, rate, and search for) and the preferences you set to rank and recommend recipes and suggestions for you.
• Build a shoppable cart with a grocery partner when you choose to send your list (see Sections 6 and 7).
• Process subscriptions and manage access to paid features.
• Send notifications you've enabled, such as a reminder of tonight's dinner, and contact you about your account, security, support requests, or changes to our terms and policies.
• Keep Noodl safe: screening and moderating shared content, handling reports, preventing abuse, and enforcing our Terms of Service.
• Understand and improve Noodl, including fixing bugs and deciding what to build next. Where we can, we use aggregated or de-identified information for this.
• Comply with the law and respond to lawful requests.

We don't use your personal information to show you third-party advertising, and we don't make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.

3. AI features and Google Gemini

Several Noodl features rely on a third-party AI service, Google's Gemini API. This section explains exactly what that involves.

• What is sent. The content you submit to an AI feature: text you paste or type, the content of links you import, photos you scan (recipes, dishes, your fridge or pantry), and requests to generate recipes or plan meals, together with the context needed to answer them (such as relevant recipes from your collection and the preferences you've set).
• Why. So the AI can read and structure recipes, recognize ingredients, and generate recipes and meal-planning suggestions for you.
• What Google does with it. Google processes this content on our behalf to return a result to us. Under the terms that apply to our paid use of the Gemini API, Google does not use this content to train or improve its models, and keeps it only for a limited period to detect abuse and meet legal requirements.
• Your choice. AI features run when you use them, for example when you import a link, scan a photo, or ask for a recipe or plan. You can save recipes by hand, plan meals, and keep grocery lists without them.

AI output can be wrong. See the Terms of Service for important cautions about allergens, nutrition, and food safety.

4. Household sharing

Noodl lets you share a kitchen with other people. When you join or create a household, your shared recipes, meal plan, and grocery list are visible to, and can be changed by, the other member(s) of that household. Don't add anyone to your household you don't want to share this data with.

5. Discover and other sharing you choose

• Your recipes are private by default. Recipes you save or import are visible only to you and your household. We don't publish them to other users.
• Discover. Discover is Noodl's public recipe feed. It features recipes from creators who have chosen to take part in our creator program. If you are one of those creators, the recipes you publish there, along with your creator name and profile image, are visible to everyone who uses Noodl, and other users can save them to their own collections.
• Sharing outside Noodl. If you export or share a recipe or list outside the app, whoever you send it to can see it.

6. Service providers and other disclosures

We share personal information only as described here.

Service providers. We use a small number of companies to run Noodl. They process data only to provide their service to us:

• Google Cloud and Firebase (Google LLC): hosting for our servers, authentication, database, file storage, and delivery of push notifications. Privacy policy
• Google Gemini API (Google LLC): reading and generating recipes from your text, links, and images, as described in Section 3.
• Apple: Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases and subscriptions, and delivery of push notifications to Apple devices. Payment card details are handled by Apple and are not collected by us. Privacy policy
• RevenueCat: managing subscriptions and access to paid features. RevenueCat receives an app-specific user identifier and your purchase information. Privacy policy
• Speech-recognition services provided through your device's operating system, to process voice input you initiate.

Grocery partners (such as Instacart). When you tap to send your list, we transmit only the grocery items you choose to send so the partner can build a cart. Your checkout then happens on the partner's own site or app under their privacy policy. Instacart privacy policy

Legal and safety. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it's necessary to comply with a law, regulation, subpoena, court order, or other valid legal process; to enforce our Terms of Service; to investigate fraud, abuse, or security issues; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, the public, or Hugoniot Labs.

Business transfers. If Hugoniot Labs is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of some or all of its assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. It will remain subject to this policy unless you're told otherwise and given a chance to delete your account first.

With your direction. We share information when you ask us to or otherwise consent.

Aggregated or de-identified information. We may use and share information that has been aggregated or de-identified so that it can no longer reasonably be linked to you (for example, which kinds of recipes are popular).

We do not sell your personal information, and we don't share it with third parties for their own advertising or marketing.

7. Affiliate links

Some links to grocery partners are affiliate links, which means Noodl may earn a commission when you shop through them, at no additional cost to you. The link tells the partner that you came from Noodl. This does not change what data we send; the items you send are used only to build your cart.

8. Tracking, cookies, and "Do Not Track"

• In the app. Noodl contains no third-party advertising or analytics software, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
• On our website. Our website doesn't use advertising or analytics cookies. Our hosting provider records basic technical information, such as IP address and browser type, to deliver the site and keep it secure.
• Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Because we don't track you across third-party sites and don't sell or share personal information for advertising, there is nothing for these browser signals to switch off. We treat every visitor the same way regardless of the signal.

9. Data retention and deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual content (recipes, plans, list items) at any time in the app, or delete your entire account from Profile → Delete account.

When you delete your account, we delete the personal information associated with it, including your profile, avatar, account details, saved content that isn't shared with a household, and activity history. A few things work differently:

• Shared household content. Recipes and recipe photos you added to a household you share with others remain available to the other member(s) of that household after your account is deleted.
• Content you published to Discover. It is removed from the public feed, but copies that other users already saved to their own collections may remain.
• Backups and logs. Residual copies may persist in backups and system logs for a limited time before they are overwritten.
• Records we must keep. We may retain limited information where needed to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our terms, or prevent abuse. Apple and RevenueCat keep purchase records under their own policies.

Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription billed through Apple. Cancel it in your Apple ID subscription settings.

You can also email us at the address below to request deletion. We aim to complete requests within 30 days, except where we must retain information as described above.

10. Your choices and rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you, or receive a copy of it in a portable format;
• Correct information that is inaccurate;
• Delete your information (you can also do this yourself in the app, as described above); or
• Object to or limit certain uses of your information.

To make a request, email us from the address on your account so we can verify that it's you. We won't treat you differently for exercising these rights. If we decline a request, we'll explain why, and you can reply to ask us to reconsider. Residents of some U.S. states may also contact their state attorney general.

Other controls:

• Notifications. Turn them on or off in the app or in your device settings.
• Camera, photos, microphone, and speech recognition. Manage these permissions in your device settings. Noodl asks for them only when you use a feature that needs them.
• Sign in with Apple. Manage or revoke it in your Apple ID settings.

California residents. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.

11. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls that limit who can reach production data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as the law requires.

12. Children

Noodl is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to use it. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, and never from children under 13. If you believe a minor has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

13. Where your information is processed

Noodl is operated from the United States and is currently offered only there. If you use Noodl from another country, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate, which may have different data-protection laws than your own.

14. Links to other sites and services

Noodl links to and imports from other websites and services, such as recipe sites, social platforms, and grocery partners. Those services are run by other companies under their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their practices.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above. If a change materially affects how we handle your personal information, we'll notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
